Transport in Anantnag

Anantnag as a tourist destination has a huge inflow of travelers all through the year. If you are fond of riding motor cycles, then this mode is also available to the tourists in Anantnag. You can hire any of these to enjoy this place thoroughly on your trip. However, remember that auto rickshaws here do not run on meter, so it is advisable to negotiate the fare in advance only.

Bus is the most easily found and comfortable mode of transport for Anantnag. The city has a general Bus stand from where one can find buses plying to major cities like Srinagar and Jammu. These buses are run by Jammu and Kashmir State Transport Development Corporation (JKTDC) at regular intervals. They cover the distance from these cities to Anantnag and its adjoining areas which are of great tourist interest.

It takes just 1 hour to reach Anantnag via bus from Srinagar and from Jammu, it is around 4 hours journey. From all nearby tourist locations including Pahalgam and Kokernag also, there are regular buses running from Anantnag to these destinations.

To reach Anantnag, railway has also now become a preferred mode of transportation. In a bid to connect the city to all major parts of the state, Anantnag has been provided its own railway station. This station is connected with Kashmir railway running from Baramulla to Qazigund. En route this network, many trains take a halt at Anantnag Railway station as well. Mostly, these are the passenger trains running intrastate. No major express train has a halt at this station. For such trains, Jammu Tawi is the nearest and largest railway station where many express trains have a stop.

Anantnag Railway station comes under Northern Railway Zone of Indian Railways. It is under Firozpur Cantt division and this station has 2 platforms running currently.
